RUD® Swivel Hoist Rings & Weld-On Load Rings — Metric & Inch Technical Guide

Engineered in Germany by RUD Ketten Rieger & Dietz, RUD® VLBG, VWBG, and Starpoint swivel hoist rings and weld-on load rings are the global benchmark for 360°-rotating, 180°-pivoting heavy rigging connections from M8 (660 lbs) to M48+ (35,200+ lbs WLL) with a 4:1 design factor in every direction.

360° Swivel & 180° Pivot Under Load

RUD load rings self-align to the exact direction of pull across 360° of rotation and 180° of bail pivot, preventing bolt bending and shear failures during multi-leg lifts and load turning.

Full 4:1 Design Factor & 100% Crack Tested

Forged from CrNiMo high-tensile alloy steel, 100% electromagnetic crack-detected, and rated with a minimum 4:1 design factor in all loading directions per ASME B30.26 and EN 1677.

ICE-Pink® Heat Indicator & Captive Bolt

High-visibility fluorescent pink powder coating serves as a permanent overheating indicator, paired with captive 100% crack-tested Grade 10.9 / ICE alloy bolts in metric and UNC threads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose a RUD swivel load ring over a standard DIN 580 machinery eye bolt?
Standard fixed eye bolts lose up to 75% of their capacity at side angles and are prone to bending or snapping during angular lifts or load turning. RUD swivel load rings rotate 360° and pivot 180° to align with the sling leg, maintaining their rated Working Load Limit at any angle.
What does the pink powder-coated finish on RUD load rings indicate?
RUD’s signature fluorescent ICE-Pink finish is a permanent visual temperature indicator. If exposed to excessive heat above 400°F (200°C), the coating darkens toward brown/black, alerting inspectors to retire the load ring from service.
Do RUD metric load rings require a fully flat, machined seating surface?
Yes. The bushing collar must seat flush and 100% flat against the workpiece so the load ring can rotate freely 360° after tightening to the specified installation torque.
Can RUD load rings be used with multi-leg chain or wire rope bridles?
Yes. RUD load rings are specifically designed for 2-, 3-, and 4-leg Grade 100 chain and wire rope bridles. Always apply the standard ASME B30.9 horizontal sling angle factor when calculating multi-leg hitch tension.
Are both metric (ISO) and inch (UNC) thread RUD hoist rings stocked?
Yes. Slings Unlimited stocks 89 RUD swivel and weld-on load ring configurations across metric (M8 through M48+) and inch (UNC) thread pitches. Call (706) 750-9099 for OEM part matching.
