Shackle Capacity Chart: Working Load Limit by Size

Find the working load limit (WLL) of every anchor shackle we sell, from 1/4″ to 2″, in one chart. We carry CM Super Strong and Green Pin® (Van Beest) galvanized anchor shackles in screw pin and bolt type styles. Pick your size below to see the capacity for each brand and shop that exact shackle.

Safety first: Never exceed the working load limit (WLL). Capacities shown are the manufacturer ratings listed on our product pages; the WLL marked on the shackle body governs. Capacities vary by brand, so do not swap brands assuming the same rating. Inspect shackles and pins before each use and remove damaged or worn shackles from service.

Shackle WLL by Size

Capacities are the manufacturer ratings listed on each product page, with the equivalent in pounds. Screw pin and bolt type versions of the same size and brand share the same rating.

Units: CM Super Strong is rated in US tons (1 ton = 2,000 lbs). Green Pin® (Van Beest) is rated in metric tonnes, shown as “t” (1 t = 1,000 kg ≈ 2,205 lbs). Pounds are converted at 2,204.62 lbs per t and rounded to the nearest 10 lbs.

What is the difference between a screw pin and a bolt type anchor shackle?

A screw pin anchor shackle has a threaded pin that screws into the bow, so it is quick to install and remove. A bolt type anchor shackle uses a bolt, nut and cotter pin; it is intended for long-term or permanent installation, and the bolt style keeps sliding loads from turning the pin and backing it out. For the brands we carry, screw pin and bolt type shackles of the same size and brand have the same WLL.

Why do two shackles of the same size have different capacities?

Each manufacturer sets its own ratings. CM Super Strong shackles are rated higher than Green Pin standard shackles in most sizes (for example 6.5 tons (13,000 lbs) vs 4.75 t (10,470 lbs) at 3/4″), so check the brand and the WLL marked on the shackle before you lift.

What does "t" mean on a Green Pin shackle?

Green Pin (Van Beest) shackles are rated in metric tonnes, written “t”. One metric tonne is 1,000 kg, or about 2,205 lbs. CM Super Strong shackles are rated in US (short) tons of 2,000 lbs. So a 4.75 t Green Pin shackle is rated about 10,470 lbs, while a 4.75 ton US rating would be 9,500 lbs. The pound figures in our chart are converted for you.

What does WLL mean on a shackle?

WLL is the working load limit: the maximum load the shackle is rated to carry in service, as set by the manufacturer. Never exceed it.
